About the Position:

Global Health Strategies is seeking an intelligent, passionate, experienced communications professional with a sophisticated understanding of public affairs/media relations as well as an expertise in global health and/or the pharmaceuticals industry. The individual should possess excellent diplomatic and client relations skills, an effective project management style, and should thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Experience with global health advocacy is considered a plus.

Communications Responsibilities:

The Manager will work closely with GHS senior staff to develop high-level communications strategies for our clients as well as pitch and place narrative-driven stories. The Manager is expected to possess existing top-tier traditional and digital media contacts in the health arena and is encouraged to expand and nurture those contacts while working at GHS. The Manager is also expected to have a keen understanding of the global health landscape and the key players in the field. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for the production and presentation of necessary communications documents, including press releases, FAQs, talking points, key messages, strategy memos and presentations. S/he is also expected to assist the organization in expanding and maintaining its global network of communications consultants.

Client Relations and Project Management Responsibilities:

The Manager will hold responsibilities as a primary liaison between GHS and its clients and as an internal driver and project manager. In addition to top-notch communications skills, the Manager is also expected to have strong project and budget management skills. Tracking budget expenditure, yearly activities planning and resource allocation for activities will be part of the Manager’s remit. The Manager is also responsible for assisting and advising GHS’ clients in their interactions with the media through the preparation of talking points and soundbites and the management of training sessions. In addition, the Manager is expected to assist senior GHS staff in the management and development of junior team members and attend domestic and international meetings and events both with the client and on its behalf. In addition, the Manager will:

• Manage communications activities, including: organizing stakeholder events, developing presentations for global health audiences, creating relevant communications materials, supporting strategic planning efforts, and drafting proposals and other documents as necessary

• Coordinate specific projects designed to build awareness, funding and political support for key international health issues

•Lead and contribute to media campaigns on behalf of clients, including pitching and placing stories in global top-tier and other international print, broadcast and online publications

• Manage client relationships, ensuring the needs of the client are met and keeping senior management appraised of project development

• Track budget expenditure and report progress to the GHS team and the client

• Create and track project work plans to ensure timely completion of client deliverables

• Supervise and oversee GHS staff and external consultants

• Contribute to communications efforts, including monitoring developments and media coverage

Required Qualifications:

• MPH or MA with specialization in public health, journalism, international affairs or other relevant field 5-7 years of communications and/or public relations

• Excellent research, writing and editing skills

• Detail-oriented

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment

• Understanding of the global health landscape and key players

• Project and budget management experience

• Experience with online communications and multimedia content a plus

• Able to work nights and weekends when necessary

• Willing to travel internationally

Additional Qualifications:

• Foreign language skills

• International work experience

• Understanding of/interest in vaccines and infectious diseases

• Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and excellent in creating professional PowerPoint presentations
