Jonathan Baum is a Senior Consultant at GHS. In his previous work with the organization, he led media and advocacy campaigns for international foundations, international organizations, and private companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Baum created and led GHS’s developing country communications program, focusing on media and advocacy around clinical trials in Africa. Mr. Baum has represented clients at international venues including the 2003 AIDS conference in Paris, the 2004 AIDS conference in Bangkok, the 2005 G8 Summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, the 2005 MIM Malaria Conference in Cameroon, the Microbicides 2006 conference in Cape Town, and the 2008 AIDS conference in Mexico City. He has organized press conferences, media trainings and political campaigns globally.
Before coming to GHS, Mr. Baum worked as a political writer, drafting op-ed articles on global health and development for political leaders ranging from U.S. presidents to a number of past and current U.S. congressmen. Mr. Baum worked as media consultant for DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa), the organization founded by U2 singer Bono to advocate for Africa. He has also worked as a speechwriter for the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies in the energy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and as a political consultant to the gay marriage campaign in New Jersey. From 2002 to 2004, he served as a weekly contributor to a Chicago Sun-Times business technology column.
Jonathan Baum earned his JD from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was Articles Editor of the California Law Review. He earned an MA in International Relations from Yale University and an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
